Branding
The Keep
The challenge
Our brief for this new archive – shared by Brighton Council, the County Council and the University of Sussex – was to challenge the perception of archives as irrelevant to modern communities.
The creative
We created a modern identity that’s all about learning, discovery and adventure informed by the past. Our solution aims to create an inviting environment for young and old alike, and featured photos of local people for the materials and interior of the building to represent the community. The brand’s values of learning, discovery and adventure are brought to life with a verbal device that urges visitors to ‘keep exploring’, ‘keep learning’, and ‘keep coming back’. We ran community focus groups, including kids, university students and staff, and other local residents to get their buy-in for the plans and the brand.
The results
The roll-out was such a success that the brand identity and images are still used today (15 years on!), including the ‘keep discovering’ verbal devices on the walls of the building.
